The Venue
After reviewing nearly 60 wedding venue brochures and visiting 15 locations, we had a lot of contenders for our special day.
But no matter how many we explored, Llyn Gwynant stood out as the place for us.
We first heard about Llyn Gwynant from a friend long before we were even engaged. Intrigued, we scrolled through pictures online and on Instagram, and we immediately fell in love. The beauty of the place captivated us from the start.
We visited the venue for the first time on March 24th, 2023, and returned again in March 2024. Both times, the weather was less than ideal, with rain pouring down, but there was something truly magical about the setting. The way the wind dances through the valley, creating waves on the lake, and how the cloud inversions wrap around the mountain is nothing short of breathtaking. When the sun finally peeks through, it feels like nature itself is celebrating with you. And to top it off, the mountain at the base of the campsite is Gallt y Wenallt, which translates to "The Hill of the Little Chapel" – a beautiful and meaningful touch for our wedding.
Being 150miles away from home, and us choosing to have a 'do-it-yourself' type of wedding didnt make it easy. But the staff are so amazing, considerate and eager to help and support in anyway they can.
I lost count of how many times we emailed Danielle and Steve on the lead up to ask questions and clarify plans - as we couldn't just 'pop in' to check measurements etc but they were always there when we needed them. And the support on the day was increidble!
From the tents being set up in advance, the glasses/beer for post ceremony set up and bar service to Steves calm and collected persona (which, being a naturaly anxious person - was very much needed!).
Everything just ran so smoothly, and the whole weekend felt like it was tailored to us, and encompased everything we wanted and every bit of effort paid off.
Llyn Gwynant will always hold a very special place in our hearts and I cannot wait to go back and visit.
Our top reasons for picking Llyn Gwynant:
- The location – felt like an elopement wedding but with friends and family
- Dog friendly
- Price was for the weekend - not 1 day
- Camping/Glaming on site with decent facilites
- B&B's available nearby for thos that don't like to camp
- We were able to pick and chose our own suppliers - customising it to us - eg vegan/cruelty free
- No corkage - can supply your own drinks for post cermemony
- We could decorate it ourselves - put our own stamp on it
- It didn't have to finish at 12am (as long as you were quiet/didn't disturb the campsite down the hill)

an Easy Dog friendly wedding
From day one, I wanted Wander walking down that aisle.
However, some venues warned us it depended on the registrar, as not all allow pets. But I was still adamant I wanted my fury baby there for at least part of the day - even if we were 150 miles away in Wales!
But when we struggled to find a dog chaperone and overnight boarder, I started to panic as it wouldn't of been fair to ask guests to watch her all day, (which proved true after the chaos of setup on Friday - thank you to Chris and everyone else for the game of “pass the beagle”!).
So, luckily, we found @weddingpawfection, who is incredible! She met us a few months before the wedding and helped us teach Wander new tricks for photos/positioning, walked Wander for us the morning of the wedding (there was an option of bath and groom too but we thought whats the point in wet windy Wales!) and she was just there whenever we needed her.
Together with my Bridesman Chris, they kept Wander calm and ready for that big aisle moment (and she was at hand in case it was a no go and plans had to change last minute). But the registras were happy, and somehow, our little diva behaved perfectly and sat with Chris good as gold.
I’ll never forget Dave and I looking at her when they asked if anyone objected waiting for an 'A-roooo!' and both of us gigglling when she was quiet as a mouse, and looking up from signing the register to see her in the aisle, striking her usual “I’m hench” pose, staring at us like, “Why are you up there? What is happening?” she was an absolute star - and some say - stole the show!
@weddingpawfection then drove her to the boarders afterwards so she could nap and we could party! I honestly can’t recommend or thank her (and Chris and other guests who looked after her) enough! It wouldn't have been the same without her there, and fair to say i was a little niave about how busy Dave and I were goingto be on the friday and Sunday with the setting up and packing down. So if you do have a high maintence pooch - Defo get some help!!
Flowers
When I originally emailed my enquiry over to @fresh_in_bloom - I felt like I'd asked for the impossible. As being a designer i had a vision in my head of the look and feel I wanted for the day... however i didn't have the budget for it... have really bad hayfever, and had a dog for a bridesmaid that eats anything in sight, and I wanted to limit as much artificial plastic waste as possible. So, the brief was...
I want the venue to be full of big, large, wild, pretty flowers in green, orange, red.
I want milk churns for doorways, jam jars, table runners, stage displays, bride bouquet, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, aisle decorations, and a flower crown. But they all have to be low-pollen and dog-friendly if eaten..
all for less than £1000
I can hear you all laughing i know - impossible. BUT Fresh and Bloom understood me perfectly - From our first conversation, it felt like we'd been friends for years, and they just knew what was in my head and were so happy to help and accomodate in any way they could to help me keep the budget down - for example guiding me on where its best to spend the money on real flowers arranged by them, where I can supply and asemble my own, and suggesting which bits are best to get artificial - but second hand off other brides - thus keeping costs down and minimilsing waste.
They pulled together a couple of different quotes for me, and there was no pressure at all.
They turned up on the day to help set up, and honestly - it all looked stunning!!
If you're local to Wales and need flowers, check them out as they grow and supply all their own from their fields too!

Hair and Make-up
I struggled quite a bit to find an affordable vegan and cruelty free make up artist that would travel to our location to do just 1-3 people but I feel like I hit the jackpot when I found @theglamgroup
I honestly cannot thank Heidi enough for all she did for us on the run up and on the big day itself. She was truly amazing!!
Her and @harmonyweddinghair worked beautifully together and we're so thoughtful, compassionate and patient which was 100% needed for a little anxious little bean like myself.
Heidi just 'got' me and knew what I needed, and when I needed it. And I don't think the morning would of been as smooth as it was without her.
From the bottom of my heart... Thank you 😘
